FAQ

Sports Vision Training

Q. What is sports vision?

Sports vision is the relationship between visual skills and sport performance. It composes several skills, such as,

•Static Visual Acuity
•Dynamic visual acuity (DVA)
•Kinetic visual acuity (KVA)
•Contrast sensitivity
•Ocular motilities
•Eye teaming/depth perception (stereopsis)
•Speed of recognition
•Eye/hand/foot coordination

Some more skills are also considered as components of sports vision the following;

•Dominant eye
•Accommodation/convergence (focusing)
•Eye teaming/depth perception (stereopsis)
•Peripheral awareness
•Anticipation timing
•Eye/foot reaction timing
•Night/glare vision and recovery
•Visual concentration
•Visualization

Q. Why is sports vision important?

Vision is the guiding sense for most sports. Among the main senses of human beings’, such as, Touch, Hearing, Olfactory, or Taste, it is said that the performance of an athlete is for more than 90% dependent on visual performance.

Q. Why is sports vision training important?

Most of the components of sports vision are measurable skills. In most cases, they can be improved upon with proper training and/or eyewear. Studies have shown that sports vision can be improved by training by 2 to 10% and then the athletic performance can be also improved by 2 to 10% accordingly. Therefore, sports vision training is important as same as that physical training or skill training are generally inevitable for any athlete.

Sports Vision Training with Visionup Strobe Glasses

Q. What is Visionup Strobe Glasses?

Strobe glasses are equipped with LCD lenses that regulates visual information by intermittent shatter effect produced by LCD on and off flickering, i.e., clear/opaque repeating. (No light or flash is used.) Frequency is changeable between 1Hz to 150Hz with 10 levels. Visionup is developed specially for sports vision training purpose. It is very light (only 30g including a rechargeable battery) thanks to the very rare LCD produced with polycarbonate and the nylon frame.

Q. What is Sports Vision Training with Visionup?

Suppose, you carry out any training while you close your eyes without any visual information. Visionup provides you the situation with less visual information just like only 50%.
There are basically three kinds of training according to the range of frequency.

1. 1Hz – 10Hz is used for visual concentration training.
With rather low frequency, each visible time is longer but also each closing time is longer. It improves your visual concentration by keeping doing simple training perfectly.

2. 10Hz – 50Hz is used for visual enhancing training.
The lower the frequency, the more difficult the task due to less visual input caused by blocking of the shutter effect. It enhances and improve your visual skills.

3. 50Hz – 150Hz is used for visual anticipation training.
When both speed of moving object and flash light flickering synchronize, you see the orbit of moving object clearly and it improves your anticipation.

Q. Is there study or research to support Visionup?

Visionup Strobe Glasses have been studied not only in Japan but also in many other countries for more than a decade including the period with the former Primary model. These studies have been conducted by some University, Institute, or trainers/optometrists.

How to use Visionup

Q. How long, how often, how many month should I use Visionup?

We recommend training for 10-15 minutes a day, 2 or 3 times a week, and for 3 months. You may use Visionup longer but the effect remains the same or even less.

Q. How should I use Visionup in a daily training program?

Visionup can be implemented into just existing daily warming up or basic training. Start with higher frequency of each range and gradually decrease the frequency lower. You may decrease the frequency when you master a certain drill. When you master it with a lowest frequency of its range, level up the drill with higher frequency.

Effect and Result

Q. What is the point to see the effect of Visionup?

The best way is to measure the present visual skills first, carry out the sports vision training with Visionup for 3 month, and measure the visual skills again.

In case that it is not realistic,
1st: do a drill without Visionup and check how you see and how you react.
2nd: do a drill with Visionup for the period fixed.
3rd: do the same drill without Visionup and check how you see and how you react.

It is also recommended that you check your score of a certain field test before using Visionup and check the score of the same field test after one month, two month, and three months.

Q. How soon will I see results?

You may notice improvement in 5-10 minutes of training. Generally certain improvement should be achieved in 4-8 weeks, depending on individuals. In 3 month or 12 weeks, most of the trainees obtain the sustainable effect which normally lasts for two months.

Q. What happens if I stop training?

Generally after 3 months training, the result lasts for two month even if you stop training. Then, in another 2 months, the level of your visual skills goes down to the original lever. Though any permanent training all year along is not required, to continue less training to maintain the result is recommended.

Q. What are the advantages of Visionup comparing to the other strobe training systems?

・No.1 Sales Record in the world
・More effective thanks to the wide range of frequency and the adjustable opaque ratio
which is very unique to only Visionup.
・Very light with only 30g weight, very safe lenses/frame, and sportive design.

Influence and Health

Q. What are the basic conditions to start sports vision raining with Visionup?

Although static visual acuity is not trainable, it is the base of sports vision in a sense. Therefore, you would better check your static visual acuity and keep its preferable level. While training with Visionup, to see any moving object is the minimum condition. Only wearing Visionup never improves your sports vision.

Q. What should I do if I begin to feel light headache or motion sickness symptoms while using Visionup?

Due to the less visual information and quite unusual eye sight, occasionally some people will experience phenomena, such as, light headache, motion sickness, etc. You should stop training and put off Vision when such symptoms are first experienced. By training shorter time with higher frequency and more frequently, these symptoms often dissipate. Once it is confirmed, you could start training with a little shorter time with a little higher frequency than usual.

Q. What is the risk if I am susceptible to seizures?

Basically you should not use the Visionup if you are susceptible to seizures, especially Light-sensitive seizures though there is no lighting system in it.
